Libby Yee lives in Eureka on the Northern California coast between the redwoods and the Pacific Ocean and has studied Chinese Brush Painting for over 30 years. Her paintings of fruit, flower, land and seascapes are informed by the Southern school style of brushwork that integrates external reality with the inner world of the artist. Working with live models and in plein air, Libby uses this traditional Chinese medium to study her connection with nature, humankind, and space and time. Her paintings are in collections in Honolulu, Maui, and Humboldt County.
Su Dongpo, the ancient Chinese poet, says, "Good painters paint the spirit, not the form. Good poets convey the idea, not the name."
She hopes that those who see her paintings feel this spirit.
